Can your remote shut off everything in the room?
A hiliarious remote control shootout! Eight attendees vied for the title of “Owner of the most unusable remote control”. The winner wasn’t actually the most number of buttons, or the least amount of buttons actually used - but the one that managed to switch off all the electrical equipment in the room through the accidental push of a random button! Usability from a client perspective
Highlight was a talk by Jock Phillips from Te Ara, the encyclopedia of New Zealand, who talked about usability from his perspective as a client - he’s now sold on usability! The event has proven that interest in usability is riding high. Twice as many people as planned turned up! (90 people). We are now talking about running similar public events throughout the year. It feels like Boxing Day
This was an awesome day. People came down to Christchurch from Wellington, Palmerston North and Auckland to attend. Lots of really good comments and people asking if it is going to be an annual event. Is it? The best part for us is that we got a strong feeling that this event made a huge step forward in raising awareness of the value of ‘usability’. Submitted by Alan Cox
My heartfelt thanks
Thank you and your wonderful team for a superbly organised and very professional World Usability Day. The amount of time, organisation, effort, and dedication that you all put into the day-long event was obvious to see, and I was very impressed. Everything ran smoothly, the presenters and the audience were well looked after, and the venue was great. You seemed to have thought of everything, and I loved the little details like the well designed ‘passes’ for the workshops. Really fantastic, Alan. You and your team did World Usability Day proud, and I, for one, am very thankful for your passionate and genuine advocacy of usability and its benefits. Submitted by Dawn Whitlock
