What is usability?
Usability engineering is an approach to product development that incorporates direct user feedback throughout the development cycle in order to reduce costs and create products and tools that meet user needs.

What do usabilty professionals do?
Usability activities are part of an overall user-centred design approach. They encompass a full range of goals-setting, user and task analysis, interface design, information architecture and usability evaluation activities that go into creating the user experience.

How many members does UPA NZ have?
There are about 50 UPA members in New Zealand, and 200 people on our mailing list.

What is the typical salary of a usability professional in NZ?
In 2005 a UPA salary survey [PDF, 208k] showed the average salary for usability professionals in New Zealand was around NZD$80,000. Salaries for usability professionals in NZ with several years experience start from NZD$50,000.
