The lunchtime session was attended by about 12 people - including representatives from Te Ara, Telecom, BNZ, Westpac - plus some usability frontline troops from The Army, Navy and Airforce (we felt well protected!).
Our congratulations to Wellington members all having babies all around this time! Hayden Vink (Hansel), Bob Medcalf (Provoke) and Sam Ng (Optimal Usability).
Ideas for future presentations
- Feature New Zealand usability case studies - our own success stories.
- Tools for prototyping - review and attend an online demo.
- What does usability mean at your workplace?
- Demonstrate our own work to the group.
- Review good/bad websites.
- Exercise - groups conduct a heuristic review of sites, compare notes and send findings to the site owners.
- Invite companies in for an ‘on the spot’ review of their site or product.
- Web 2.0 / collaboration / benefits of (Zef: does anybody have any reasearch on the usefulness of tag-clouds?).
- Who went to foo (baa) camp? Report back to the group.
- Styleguides - compare notes.
- E-Government update - what happened and what’s next? (Zef gave a brief overview, but when Hayden and Bob are back from babyland we’ll get an update from them).
- Request for more training/workshops on accessibility and usability methods - now Alex Smith has left Wellington the Victoria University course is no longer running.
- Request for a members forum on the UPANZ website, plus the ability to submit articles online (meantime you can submit articles to zef@provoke.co.nz).
NEXT STEPS
The Wellington planning commitee will meet and discuss options for future meetings.
It is our intention to hold the meetings monthly as lunchtime sessions, plus special events such as World Usability Day.
